From the age of 2 to adolescent, a child grows about 2 inches a year. Adolescence is when there is a growth spurt that is caused by changes in hormones. Girls start their growth spurt around age 9 or 10, and boys hit their growth spurts two years later than girls. When puberty occurs, in each individual's life, depends on diet, health, body type, heredity, and ethnic background. The process of puberty takes about 4 years.
